In 1997, Robert started his own freelance writing and marketing communications business, Robert Roberge Writing & Communications Consulting, and in 2009 launched Rockvale Communications, a strategic marketing and marketing communications firm. Clients include organizations from across a variety of industries, the most notable of which are The MITRE Corporation; Sybase, Inc.; Thomson Financial Services; Arthur D. Little, Inc.; Metcalf & Eddy; Triad-Engineering Corporation; FootBridge Companies; Amherst Computer Solutions, Inc.; and Zwicker & Associates, P.C., among others.

Since September 1999, his primary marketing and communications consulting work has been for the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) project at The MITRE Corporation, Bedford, Mass., as Marketing Communications Manager/Writer. Robert has performed a similar function for MITRE's Open Vulnerability and Assessment Language (OVAL) project since 2002, Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE) project since 2006, Common Configuration Enumeration (CCE) project since 2006, Making Security Measurable effort since 2007, Common Event Expression (CEE) project since 2008, Common Malware Enumeration (CME) project from 2005-2008, Malware Attribute Enumeration and Characterization (MAEC) project since 2009, Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Characterization (CAPEC) project since 2009, and Cyber Observable Expression (CybOX) project since 2011. He also works with select clients on additional projects.
